What are capital market stocks and which ones do mutual funds track in India?

Capital market stocks include stock exchanges, depositories, asset management companies, brokers, and financial infrastructure providers. The curated list tracked here covers BSE and MCX among exchanges, CDSL among depositories, CAMS and KFin among registrar and transfer agents, AMCs like Nippon Life India and UTI AMC, wealth managers like 360 ONE WAM, and full-service brokers like Angel One and Motilal Oswal. These companies collectively form the backbone of India financial ecosystem and their revenues are directly linked to market activity, SIP flows, and investor participation.

Rising fund counts over four months signal growing institutional conviction in the capital markets theme. Cross-reference individual fund portfolios on our top stocks page or explore full holdings via the funds directory.

Why are mutual funds buying capital market stocks in India right now?

India financialisation of savings is a powerful multi-decade theme. Mutual fund AUM has grown from Rs 10 lakh crore in 2017 to over Rs 65 lakh crore today, and SIP monthly inflows are at record highs. This growth directly benefits AMCs, RTAs like CAMS and KFin, and depositories like CDSL. Retail participation in equities is rising, benefiting brokers like Angel One and Motilal Oswal. BSE and MCX benefit from rising volumes. Fund managers see these stocks as leveraged plays on India growing financial inclusion.

For context on SEBI disclosure requirements, refer to AMFI India. For regulatory guidelines, visit SEBI India. Explore broader holding trends using our market cap categories page.

Are index funds and ETFs included in the capital market stock fund counts?

No — all counts exclude index funds, ETFs, and fund of funds. Only actively managed equity mutual funds are counted. Index funds mechanically hold stocks in proportion to index weight — their holdings do not reflect active manager conviction. By excluding them, fund counts here more accurately represent where professional stock pickers are actively building or reducing positions in India capital market stocks.

To explore individual fund portfolios, visit the funds directory or use the SIP calculator to plan investments in funds with high financial services exposure. For a broader market view, see our AAUM data page.
